The Vulcan Wrecker company was founded in 1917 by Ernest Holmes Sr. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company was originally called the Ernest Holmes Company, but in 1918, the name was changed to The Vulcan Wrecker Company.
In 1919, the company introduced the first commercially available tow truck, which revolutionized the towing industry. It was a flatbed truck with a winch and a crane that could lift disabled vehicles onto the back of the truck.
Over the years, Vulcan Wreckers became known for their durability and reliability and were used by towing companies, police departments, and fire departments all over the world. In the 1950s, the company added hydraulic booms to their trucks, which made them even more versatile and useful.
In the 1970s, Vulcan Wreckers were acquired by the Dover Corporation and became part of the Dover Industries division. In 1980, the company introduced the Vulcan V-70, which became the industry standard for heavy-duty towing.
Today, the Vulcan brand is owned by Miller Industries, which continues to manufacture high-quality tow trucks and wreckers under the Vulcan name. Vulcan Wreckers have a long and proud history in the towing industry and are still some of the most respected and trusted vehicles on the road today.
